Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
(This bug should probably be marked as wishlist but may be good for usability)
99% of the time the files I'm working with and probably most users are working with are in their home folder, or on removable media (when they plug in their pen drive or ipod, or put in a CD). Most users should never need to venture into their root filesystem. So I think it would be nice to have the only 'volume' icons on the desktop by default be the users home folder, and removable media. Non-removable media like their hard disk should be excluded. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this currently -- you can use gconf-editor to set a nautilus setting to toggle having icons for _all volumes_, but not for just removable ones.
Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Dapper only lists removables media and partitions mounted to /media on the desktop which seems to do what you are asking for
