g-session logout dialogue breaks if g-p-m not installed

Bug Description

Clicking on the logout option in the gnome-system menu brings this dialog box with the options. When I click on "shutdown" the system does not shutdown but somehow logs me out. It seems not to be exactly a normal logout, since the gnome-sessions somehow get corrupted when I use this button. (But I am not sure if this is just another bug.)

This problem appeared with the last update I made on Friday. Besides the "hibernate" and "suspend" buttons disappeared from this dialog (which is not part of the bug, but probably gives you more hints on when the problem was introduced).

infos:
dapper drake, updated this morning (dist-upgraded from breezy some time ago)
gnome-panel 2.14.1-0ubuntu10
gnome-session 2.14.1-0ubuntu6
thinkpad T43p

Same problem also appeared after update on friday. Also hitting restart takes me to the splash screen but pc then hangs.

'sudo shutdown -h now' will shut the machine down. One thread (/ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=175384) said to install gnome power manager. But synaptic tells me it was unable to find this. So I havent been able to test this.

Martin
dapper 6.06
gnome panel 2.14.1

installing gnome-power-manager did the trick for me, thanks for the link. now I have that ugly behaviour that is filed in another bug i think. the system shuts down, but the usplash-screen is not properly shown (I see a text console login first, then i see the second half of the usplash shutdown screen)

If gnome-power-manager is not installed, the logout dialogue does not show the Suspend and Hibernate options and does a logout when Shutdown is selected.

The last update was made in order to let gnome-session ask g-p-m to perform power actions instead of GDM (and ask whether these actions are available). gnome-session will very soon depend on g-p-m, which should solve the problem.

Sebastien

I have loaded
g-p-m 2.14.3-Oubuntu6

and also have the following on the system

g-session 2.14.1-Oubuntu6
g-panel 2.14.1-Oubuntu10

With the gpm now loaded I now see a hibernate button as well as the 3
buttons along the top (logout switch lock) but still no shutdown button.

You mention: gnome-session 2.14.1-0ubuntu7
I cant see this in synaptic manager - will this take a while to be added
to the repositories?

Martin
