Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The logout-screen only has a logout, switchuser, lockscreen, and since the update of gnomesession to 2.14.1-0ubuntu6, a hibernate button. I'm missing the shutdown and restart button.

Thanks for your bug. Did you restart your session? When did you update? Did you get that issue before or is that new since an upgrade? What does "gdmflexiserver -a -c QUERY_LOGOUT_ACTION" write on a command line?

Yes, I've restarted the session. I first (clean) installed the beta2 of dapper and have updated daily since then. Gnome-sesion ubuntu7&8 haven't changed the problem.

kiwinote@kiwinote-desktop:~$ gdmflexiserver -a -c QUERY_LOGOUT_ACTION

(process:5982): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2215: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

The commands shutdown and init don't shut down my computer, but ask me to log in for maintanance.
The day the problem occured I had copied the human gdm-theme to home and changed it slightly and have been using that theme since then.
Hope that helps,
Kiwinote

It seems like I got this after updating on 5/25. If I logout, GDM has the option to shutdown and restart (both work). I will upload my output of "gdmflexiserver -a -c QUERY_LOGOUT_ACTION" since it is fairly long. At the end of it there is a seg fault.

No, I tried sudo shutdown -h again and it still asks me for my desktop login, but if I wait for a while it does eventually shutdown my computer.

could you attach your /etc/gdm/gdm-conf and /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom to the bug?

I had switched back to human before I posted those file's, but I also thought that I would clean up the gdm.conf-custom to see if that made a difference. And it did !!! I have my icons back. Thanks for your help,
Kiwinote

do you still have the bogged versions to debug that? In which case feel free to attach them and reopen the bug. Other way feel free to let the bug closed as an user configuration issue fixed :)

I have a problem like this too. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and I got lost during this thread. There isn't a shutdown or restart button. What's going on? And, when I hibernate, then turn it on, my computer crashes. It seems there is no possible way to shut this down without it crashing when it's trying to restore the session from hibernating. Help Please?
