kcontrol-autostart removes "Type=Application" from every desktop file in ~/.kde/Autostart

Bug Description

every time kcontrol-autostart is used to add or change some autostart applications, the field "Type=Application" gets removed from every desktop-file in $HOME/.kde/Autostart. Since this entry is required to execute a desktop file, every operation done with kcontrol-autostart results in breaking of all autostart entries and during the next start of KDE, an error message for every desktop file in $HOME/.kde/Autostart appears.

This bug is reproducible in 0.1-0ubuntu2 and renders kcontrol-autostart completely useless.

In addition to messing up desktop files, kcontrol-autostart deletes all non-desktop files according to the provided TODO and therefore does not provide any meaningful function to the user.

this patch should fix the described problem by adding "Type=Application" to the created .desktop files.

What is the status of this bug? Has the patch been released to dapper/edgy?

Daniel Frein (danielfrein) wrote :

No progress in both dapper and edgy (beta): An autostart entry created with kcontrol-autostart with an up-to-date edgy system (kcontrol-autostart 0.1-0ubuntu3) still raises the following error: "Error - KDesktop: The desktop entry file /home/user/.kde/Autostart/app.desktop has no Type=... entry"

The newer upstream releases 0.1b (and 0.2) contain a fix for this bug, according to its ChangeLog: "* 15/12/2005
Fixed stupid bug that rendered the app useless (added the Type entry to the .desktop files".

sync it from where? It's not in debian.

I was trying to build it last night, but it's not allowing the .pot file generation patch, as they've changed the build system, i think.

Will hopefully look more later.

Sorry, I forgot to check if it was in debian or not. It's just a tarball at http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=32517

I can confirm this for 6.06 Kubuntu with KDE 3.5.5 (for two different installations); I will try this again tonight with my 6.10 box to see if it is also an issue or not.
