Dapper kernel panic during boot

Bug Description

After the latest update to Dapper (17-5-06) I am unable to boot up.

I get:-

Can't open /scripts/functions
Kernel panic - not syncing. Attempted to kill init.

Yes. I've just booted 2.6.15-20-amd64-generic.

I'm using a dual opteron BTW

After the latest updates today, I'm now able to boot 2.6.15-22-amd64-generic, so it seems to be fixed.
