Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Purely cosmetic this one. I only noticed this now in the Ubuntu Karmic Beta, but have since observed it in Ubuntu Jaunty too.

When you elect to move a SINGLE file or directory in Nautilus using either the Edit->Cut menu or CTRL+X shortcut, a message appears in the Nautilus info bar of that window telling you that "<filename> will be moved if you select the Paste command".

That's cool, but when you elect to COPY a SINGLE file or directory instead with the Edit->Copy menu or CTRL+C you get the exact same message! The actual operation executed is the copy you expected, however - not a move operation.

The message correctly specifies "will be copied" or "will be moved" when doing multiple file/directory selections instead of single file/directory copies.

The message correctly specifies "to be copied" or "to be moved" when browsing menu options for single or multiple file/directory selections.

So nothing serious, just an incorrect message in the info bar after you have chosen the Copy function for a single file or directory.

Thank you for your bug report. I have linked the upstream bug. Note, I tried reproducing the bug in Karmic and I am unable to do so.

Hi Nigel,

1. Right-mouse-click any single file or folder in Nautilus. A menu appears.
2. Choose "Copy" from the menu.
3. Now look at the message in the status bar (bottom of the Nautilus window). It says the file/folder "will be MOVED if you select the Paste command" instead of "copied".

Repeat the test with multiple file/folder selections and it correctly says "will be copied".

I'm using Karmic Final.

I should add that the "menu hover" message correctly states "will be copied". When you actually select the Copy command (thus closing the menu), the "will be moved" message appears in place of it.

still reproduce the bug in Nautilus >= 2.30."

Using Nautilus 2.30 in Lucid RC, the bug is still there. Simply right-click any file or folder and choose "Copy" from the menu. The message in the status bar at the bottom of the window says "<blah> will be moved if you select the Paste command".

I'll add a comment in the upstream bug report.
