nVidia GeForce 2 MX400 does not work with the nv driver

Bug Description

My particular graphics card does not function with the nv driver, but does with vesa or nvidia (official). This is easy to fix post-install by modifying xorg.conf, but automatic use of the vesa driver would be greatly appreciated - especially since this is a real problem with the liveCD.

thanks, GreenPenguin

Thanks for the bug report.

It would also be useful if you could describe in what manner your graphics card fails to work with the nv driver.

FWIW, this device is working fine for me here:

0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)

with the nv driver.

The fd.o bug says:

"Use of the nv driver results in either a black screen, or a screen flashing in
small rectangles of many different colors"

So it is clearly not appropriate to use the vesa driver by default on this device, and the nature of the problem is still unclear.

this certainly doesn't happen here.

Hmm... perhaps I have a defective card. I'll see if I can get it working with the nv driver at all.
