Bug Description
On dapper (updated daily) the screen freezes after a mouse click. This is non-deterministic and seems to happen mainly in evolution (I have many mailboxes) when the screen is being updated and I click somewhere on the screen. Clicking away after a restart of X is a reasonably reliable way of causing this to happen, but it is not infallible. Once the initial session startup rush is finished, the machine will stay working for days sometimes, but it will eventually lockup.
When it locks up, xorg freezes except for mouse movement. The keyboard seems to be de-activated (so CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE or switching to the console won't work). Ssh is possible from another machine and the X can be killed and restarted.
This is an SMP machine that has the "clock multiplier" problem (the clock is ticking considerably faster than real-time) and it may the fact that NTP sometimes doesn't stay syncronised has something to do with this. Maybe it is something to do with a clock step change?
Hi Dirk. Are you still seeing this problem on Dapper, in it's current form? Do you see it on more recent versions of Ubuntu (Edgy or Feisty)?
