Context menu opened when a window edge is left-clicked

Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

When I click on any edge of a window with the LEFT mouse button, the context menu is opened as if I had right-clicked. This does not occur if the window is locked against the bottom edge of the screen.
Not sure how to reproduce this. It was happening with firefox, making it difficult to resize the window. Then it happened with a vncviewer window (during the same gnome session) and it stopped happening with firefox. Then I closed vncviewer and it's not happening anymore.

Thanks for your bug. That probably happened when you had the top of the window out of the screen, that's a feature to make easy for people who do that to act on the window without the window manager bar (right click is not discoverable for that)

You're right, that is how to reproduce it. However, in my experience right-click is discoverable. In fact left-click and right-click do the same thing (open the context menu). So, if right-click covers this purpose shouldn't left-click go back to what people are used too? It makes it very difficult to resize the window if you have forgotten or never learned the alt-middle-click shortcut.

How does it make it very difficult, the menu open has a "resize" option ....

Sorry, very difficult is definitely an exaggeration. However, it is certainly annoying to attempt a click-drag and to be accosted with a menu. After you realize you won't be allowed a click-drag, you then find the resize item in the menu. Even if you expect this behavior, it requires two clicks instead of a click-drag. No one shares my sentiments?

I had this discussion with upstream when they made possible to place the window manager bar out of the screen. Usuability studies show than right click is not as discoverable as you think (probably the reason of the 1 button mouses from Apple) and GNOME upstream recommend make all the useful actions available from somewhere else than the context menu

If you want to discuss it better to go upstream, we will no override upstream on that
