Choosing edubuntu-artwork package. This bug is really old. Have you tested how edgy (6.10) works?

by default teh video driver detection will set all drivers to 24bit, try to set X_COLOR_DEPTH=16 in your /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf
(/opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/doc/ltsp-client/examples/lts-parameters.txt.gz has a list of other accepted options)

I remember this bug from Dapper Drake...thought it was fixed. Anyway, it still exists in Edgy Eft. I'm attaching a screen shot from Linux Mint Bea, which uses Ubuntu 6.10 as a code base. My laptop is a Fujitsu FMV-Biblo LOOX. The "tearing" only occurs when I move the nipple pointer up and to the left.

did you test the suggestion above ?

I changed the color depth to 16bit in the xorg.conf file and rebooted. This did not solve the problem. For a feature request, I previously submitted an idea that the hardware detection process use the information from the graphics card to determine what compositing/rendering capabilities are possible. 16bit depth and slow DRI are the only options for this ATI Rage Mobility P/M chip (from what I've discovered).

please use the lts.conf, xorg.conf is usually rewritten on boot of the thin client unless you specified a static one in lts.conf (which i surely wouldnt suggest since the autodetection usually works way better)
