Bug Description

VAIO VGN-FS215E
CPU intel celeron M370 1.50 GHz
Graphics Intel 915GM with up to 128 MB
RAM 2x256 MB
WLAN 802.11 b/g
SCREEN 15.4 WXGA X-black LCD
Optical Double layer DVD+-RW
French keyboard

During the installation, just before the screen resolution step, my screen goes black with 2 fixed white rectangles on it.
From there the install carries on if I hit enter to accept the default screen resolution (I do it blind as at that stage my screen is black..)

Then the screen stays black until the end. So when it comes to grub install (have windows on the laptop as well) I have to type things blindly as well.

After numerous tries and errors, I managed to install it correctly. You will find logs attached.

To reproduce:

using the same vaio as mine I guess at anytime, using either edubuntu / ubuntu install cd/dvd

Dapper is the version. (had no problem with breezy)
Unfortunately no more Xorg log at the moment (this laptop is reinstalled every other day for my tests). will try to reinstall soon to provide you with the log.

Same problem.
Version tried: Kubuntu 6.06 (Three times)
                       Ubuntu 6.06.1 (Once)
Kubuntu 6.06.1 (Once, hitting the enter key a few times after the black screen got Kubuntu installed).

Hardware: Dell Inspiron 6000: 915GM, native LCD resolution 1920x1200. But I can only get 1600X1200. Installing 915resolution does not help.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducable with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the actively developed release. You can find out more about the development release at [WWW] http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/
