Bug Description

Hi!
There is a BIG problem with Ubuntu (at least for me) that keeps comming up and was not soved in Dapper RC: the screen resolution.
I have tried to install from the live cd (Ubuntu 6.06 RC desktop-i386) but after the complete boot, the screen resolution is stuck at 640x480@60Hz. I mention that I have chosen from the boot menu (F4 VGA) the correct resolution for my monitor (1024x768 - 32 bits) and the loader kept it this way just untill the deskop wallpaper appeared. At shutdown the same strange problem: the screen resolution became the good one again...
It seems to me that the xorg.conf file doesn't memorise the user's resolution set at the boot time...

Thank you!

Sorry for posting each file in a separate post, but I didn't find the option to attach multiple files to a single post.
IMPORTANT:
1. The xserver-xorg reconfiguration was perfect! All my hardware was detected!
2. The ONLY change I have to do every time I install Ubuntu is to add HorizSync and VertRefresh at the Monitor Section in xorg.conf file.
3. The files attached are obtained using the installed system, not the live cd.
4. Doing "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" on the system loaded from the live cd detects well all my harware too, but I am not allowed to startx after the reconfiguration is finished.

Thank you!

Thanks, yes many have reported this problem with ubuntu not detecting the monitor h sync and v refresh rates, requiring them to be manually specified.

Thanks for attaching all the requested files; glad to hear manually specifying the rates provides an ok work around for now. Another workaround is to simply move aside the xorg.conf file - in Feisty xorg itself can detect the monitor settings, and might be able to detect them better than ubuntu's installer does.

I'll mark this as a dupe of 3731, which seems to be the earliest report of this issue.
