I just upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and have no sound. I have onboard audio "Intel AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)" that worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04. I ran the ALSA information script and attached the results. Is there an easy solution to this problem? It seems to be pretty widespread.

@Daniel Unfortunately you linked to the actual script itself, not the
output from the script.

@Daniel Your issue is right here:
Kernel release: 2.6.28-16-generic

That's 9.04's kernel, not 9.10's. Most likely your grub configuration
(grub.cfg/menu.lst) was not properly updated.

Hi Aditya,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 466716

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.
