Subject: ubuntu-artwork: Boxes for do not scale with font (i.e. non default DPI makes it look funny)
Package: ubuntu-artwork
Version: 24
Severity: minor

Specifically the username/password box on my system is too small if I set my DPI correctly (rather than choose the default 75 dpi).

My display is 145 dpi rather than a usual 70-100. So my fonts are much larger (pixel-wise) than usual. But the theme seems to not take this possibility into account and the username/password box are too small for my input and become clipped.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 12388, which was closed for some reason.

I have exactly the same issue with gdm screen. Checked 1280x1024 and 1680x1050 resolutions and in both modes the fonts are too big for login and password textbox.

In fresh Feisty Fawn installation (daily build 11 Apr 2007) the default dpi for gdm was much bigger then 75 or 96 (that's why fonts are too big). The workaround which worked was to change [server-Standard] section in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf by adding '-dpi 96' at the end of the line:

command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. My apologies as I should not have marked this Invalid. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
