Totem-xine uses 100% cpu

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem-xine

Using a Trident CyberhomeXP video card in a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 Laptop. Have all latest updates.
DVD playback is very jerky (DMA enabled) - dropping many frames. Ran fine in Breezy on same machine so not a cpu speed issue.
Tried using totem-gstreamer - same results, if not slightly worse.
Suspect video driver not behaving correctly.

Thanks for your bug. Could you try with xine-ui if it has the same issue?

Hi. I'm afraid Xine is the same - 100% cpu and dropping lots of frames.

Also, if it is relevant, Totem refuses to open directly and only opens when a DVD is inserted into the drive. I had noticed that others have reported this, but many say it was fixed in an update - that update didn't fix mine. However if I rename the totem_log.png file then the problem goes away.

not a totem issue then, might be due to xorg, do you use "xv" with your videocard?

I did try changing the default video from 'auto' to 'xv' in the totem config file, but it made no difference. I suspected something related to the video driver. I do not know enough about xorg or the trident card to work it out. I haven't installed anything special - no fancy compositing etc. Any ideas?

reassigning to xserver-xorg-driver-trident, maybe xorg maintainers will have some idea

Nick, do you still have this issue with a more recent Ubuntu release (preferably 7.10)? If yes, please attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
