Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.15-23-386-di

Since kernel-image-2.6.15-23, my laptop (compaq nx8220) could not be shutdown or rebooted.
The shutdown process hangs at deconfiguring network devices.... and needs to be hard reset.
Sometimes even it said, kernel speed cannot be modified and system ran at full speed.

Tried booting 2.6.15-22 and all is OK. ACPI works well.

Something must have happend from 22->23

Same thing here, except that it hangs at the HP imaging system line. It was working well with 2.6.15-22.

After some testing with 2.6.15-23 & 24 kernels, It seems that the shutdown process works well as long as the system has not been hibernated (suspended to disk). After hibernation, it hangs at one line or the other of the shutdown process.

after some deeper investigation, I figured out, why all those problems related to kernel-2.6.15-25 came.

Running the automatic updates just updated the kernel, but did not replace the correct modules. After uninstalling all old kernels, images, headers and modules and installing all the latest stuff in synaptic, everything seems to be solved. No major problems anymore related to kernel.

Looks like, this is an issue for the guys who maintain the update dependancies :-)

For me, this issue is solved so far.

On Feisty, shutdown is working right for me. As far as I'm concerned, this bug is fixed.
