Bug Description

My laptop's resolution is 1366x768. Since breezy, the default resolution selected by ubuntu installation for my laptop has been 1368x768, which results in a screen that scrolls from side to side. I don't believe 1368x768 is ana ctual valid resolution, but regardless, it's an easy enough change for the desktop. However, the problem comes into play for the gdm login screen. Even after I change the desktop resolution to 1366x768, gdm still scrolls from side to side. This results in an annoying and unprofessional feel to the log in. I will attach my xorg.conf file and you will be able to see that it accurately says 1366x768 as well.

This shows that the xorg.conf correctly shows the right resolution.

Is there a way to verify any progress on this?

look at the comments on the bug. That doesn't look like a gdm bug, rather an xorg one, reassining

This should be fixed in Gutsy because of change too new Intel driver but with Gutsy Beta Live CD I have the problem that 1024x768 instead of 1366x768 is saved in xorg.conf. This seems to be a regression and doesn't happen with Tribe 5 which still uses the i810 driver.
Of course it is no problem to change to 1366x768 with "Screen Resolution".

Johnathon, can you please attach the output from ddcprobe, and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Johnathon problem has something to do with wrong resolution given through i810 driver. If this driver is used xrandr provided the correct resolution but 1368x768 too (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/6931687/xrandr.txt) and it seems that gnome screen resolution uses the highest possible resolution.
This has been fixed with change to new Intel driver in Gutsy but it seems that this results in another detection change (since Breezy 1366x768 was automatically detected and saved to xorg.conf).
Btw. my dccprobe (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9539672/ddcprobe) seems to be broken.

Ok, since the 1368x768 vsize problem seems to be fixed through changing to new Intel driver in Gutsy this could be closed. There is still the wrong resolution recognition in Gutsy (1024x768 instead of native) since the new Intel driver but this is a different issue and reported through Bug #147323. If the resolution in xorg.conf is changed to 1366x768 in Gutsy this issue is gone.

Even the 1024x768 issue is fixed in Gutsy RC so everything should work fine.
