Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I have seen the touchpad behavior to be very erratic on an Acer Ferrari 4000 laptop. The touchpad's movement notification occasionally gets "stuck" on the left button, so everytime you move, it tries to select anything it can under the pointer. This happened very erraticly to determine conditions necessary to reproduce.

Another problem was doing two finger taps would sometimes make it get stuck on the middle button event. Any subsequent taps after this will give middle button event.

I tried various options and nothing worked with the 0.14.3 driver shipped with ubuntu. i'm also updated to latest post-RC1, so there is no newer packages in the repo which I have missed. The onlyway i was able to fix this was to download and compile the latest 0.14.4 driver from http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/touchpad/index.html

Note the driver will make a synaptics_drv.o file which has to be renamed synaptics_drv.so and placed in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so

Can the package maintainer please update the version before dapper release, so users with newer laptops will benefit.

thanks.
