Bug Description
Recently upgraded from Ubuntu v8.10 NBR to v9.10 using Update Manager - update appeared to work successfully.
After upgrade, machine ran fine for ~1 week and then prompted that updates were available. I reviewed and approved the updates to be applied and Update Manager started the installation process. A red balloon icon with an '!' in it appears up on the menu/status bar near the clock. Clicking it notified me that a crash had been detected - did I want to report it. I chose to report, it collected some data and then notified me that it could not report the crash because some packages (~10) including avahi..., x11-common and others were out of date and I could not submit the crash report. Most, if not all of these out-of-date packages were the same that were in my to-update list. Was prompted to submit a crash report again (from the failure to submit a crash report?) and chose to submit again and was successfully was able to submit this report.
I also received a message that a kernel crash has occurred and that my system is likely unstable and must be rebooted. I intend to do this and attempt to run these updates again. If successful I will update (and likely close) this bug.
Please let me know what other information would be helpful.
The output of ubuntu-bug should be included with this report - since it appeared to run correctly and got me to this page - nonetheless, I'm including the
Thank you
