Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

# aptitude install samba
...
# dpkg-reconfigure samba
 * Stopping Samba daemons [ OK ]
sed: -e expression #1, char 140: unknown option to `s'

I was asked two questions:

* How do you want to run Samba? (Answer: daemons)
* Create samba password database? (Answer: Yes)

I did no fiddling with Samba prior to this. It's a Karmic install from scratch, not an upgraded Jaunty.

I confirm the bug. It seems to happen on Karmic x86_64 only:

root@vendas:/home/pc# dpkg-reconfigure samba
 * Stopping Samba daemons [ OK ]
sed: -e expression #1, char 140: unknown option to `s'

Same for me. Karmic x86_64, and my debconf priority is set to low. LANG="C" doesn't change things.

Debian Bug # 558116 Fixes this issue apparently. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=558116

Would be nice to have in Ubuntu 9.10, because right now I don't know how to get a clean smb.conf file.

This has been fixed in lucid, its probably a good candidate for an SRU as well.
