Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

lspci | grep -i wireless

0000:02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

iwconfig eth1

eth1 IEEE 802.11b/g ESSID:off/any Nickname:"Broadcom 4306"
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.484 GHz Access Point: Invalid
          Bit Rate=11 Mb/s Tx-Power=19 dBm
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Per the wiki I have tried:

sudo iwconfig eth1 rate 11M
sudo iwconfig eth1 ap any

But sudo iwlist eth1 scan always gives me:

eth1 No scan results

I know there are at least 5 wireless networks in range (one of which is 2 feet away and is my own. My wireless card was working fine in Breezy (with the ndiswrapper module, which I have tried, have filed a bug on, and is still not resolved).

Thanks, Tom

If you're using bcm43xx, you need to install firmware. See here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx?highlight=%28bcm43xx%29#head-cf3f0ec9146ae9441b39c4bed74e5d044ef78d2f for the really simple method.

I'm using bcm43xx (have blacklisted ndiswrapper). I am using firmware
that I created from the windows drivers using fwcutter. Will try to the
deb package as per wiki entry.

I've tried the firmware as per the wiki which currently points to:
http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/pool/bcm43xx/bcm43xx-firmware_1.1-0ubuntu1_all.deb
and also http://ubuntu.cafuego.net/pool/bcm43xx/bcm43xx-firmware_1.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Neither one brings me any results. I get "no results" from "sudo iwlist eth1 scan".

Could you post your dmesg output?

Okay, I feel VERY stupid. I just pushed the wireless button, and it worked. I didn't even know it was a button, and have never used it before, but apparently that was the thing I was missing.

Sorry :(

LOL. Quite alright. Chances are that it didn't work before you installed
the firmware anyhow.

Cheers, Søren.
