Bug Description

Binary package hint: notify-osd

Since I upgraded to Karmic (9.10), every icon in the bubble gets replaced by one particular one (The notification area applet icon of awn). So the volume up/down, brightness up/down, downloaded things with firefox (firefox-notify), things with icons send through notify-send ...

The installed version is: 0.9.24-0ubuntu1 (default installation)

terminal output when running notify-osd:

** (notify-osd:8665): DEBUG: Using icon parameter
** (notify-osd:8665): DEBUG: [2009-11-28T00:55:11-00:00, gnome-settings-daemon, id:0, icon:notification-audio-volume-medium (synchronous)]

Probably you guys need more data, but I have no clue what, so shoot.

Uff, sounds like something messed up your system-wide installed icons. notify-osd does not do any super weird tricks with icon-substitution.

Hm... what could you do to narrow this down a bit... ?

1.) Check if you see the correct icons when you do:
eog /usr/share/notify-osd/icons//hicolor/scalable/status/notification-audio-volume-medium.svg
eog /usr/share/notify-osd/icons/gnome/scalable/status/notification-audio-volume-medium.svg

2.) What icon-theme do you use?

3.) Does uninstalling awn fix the issue?

4.) Do you see the same with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 (e.g. under VirtualBox/KVM/VMware) and awn?

1) When browsing to /usr/share/notify-osd/icons/hicolor/scalable/status all icons are like they should be. (So the audio volume shows a speaker)

2) Normally I use Breathe. I tested also Humanity and since a 3-4 days using the Human icon theme. (Because somebody in ubuntu chat suggested it could be icon-theme-related)

3-4) I compile awn myself (for developing purposes) already over 2-3 years. From before 0.2.8 to 0.4 rewrite. I never removed it properly and it probably won't be possible to do anymore. (I only have the sources of the latest release anymore). Yeah I was/am still a n00b at compiling (then).
I'm sure that in a fresh install and awn (compiled) this problem doesn't occur. (The devs of awn test new installs on Virtualbox for upcoming releases and stable ones. So they did for karmic)

Note: It is only the icons of notify-osd that are messed up. All other icons on the panels/nautilus/awn/... show the right icons

Further discussion with the user revealed, that stale installs of awn (from source) to prefix/usr/local added the file /usr/local/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/notification.svg. Removing this fixed the issue.
