Bug Description

There is a page which lists localised Ubuntu websites, but it isn't sufficiently prominent and people may miss it.

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local

There are lots of ubuntu websites which are in local languages - generally to be found at ubuntu-cc.org. For Germany for example it is http://www.ubuntu-de.org/

I don't think it is realistic to expect that the main Ubuntu website be localised too. Does that make sense?

At the moment, one has to click on Wiki and there he can find "Ubuntu in your language". The links there are interwiki-links, not i.e. http://www.ubuntu-de.org/.

My opinion is,
it would be somewhat professional to translate the main-information pages on www.ubuntu.com to as many languages as possible.
I counted ~15 valuable pages. Putting those into rosetta should be okay.

On the other hand, if this can not be agreed, i would request a subsite on www.ubuntu.com where local language communities are linked (flags or a globe would be cool).
Similiar to the interwiki-links . This site should be linked from the "ubuntu" link-box, together with Employment.

We have this page:

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local

It could be more prominently linked from the About and Community
sections of the website, I think

Rejecting Ubuntu task since this is unrelated to the distro itself; task remains open on ubuntu-website.

I am at the Canonical support office in Montreal. We get several requests for free email support every week. after seing this I took the initiative to modifiy http://www.ubuntu.com/support. It now has links to:

http://www.ubuntu.com/support/free
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamList

Is this enough to close it on ubuntu-website ?

On IRC, mdke mentioned:
" actually, I think perhaps that it would be clearer to have a single link to support/local, rather than two different links (the locoteam list is at the top of support/local). We can make the link more prominent by making it a separate paragraph and maybe adding an icon"

I don' t have time to make it much better than it is now, but I agree with that.

Hi, this is still a topic for discussion. Some great improvements to this area of the website have been discussed on the web-presence team mailing list. One problem we currently have is that it's difficult to contribute to the Ubuntu.com website (which is a different topic all together). We're working on that and once implemented we'll be able to do more interesting things like create a localized page for each language that directs people to support resources in their native tongue.
