[Dapper/Edgy] amaroK (1.3.9/1.4) refuses to play any playlist; just skips through

Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok-xine

When I try to play any set of files (and I have got libxine-extracodecs installed), amaroK just skips through the list until the end, producing lots of HD activity but no sound output. It is as if the amarok-xine engine is failing to play the tracks, however xine-ui plays them perfectly. I am using the packages from the http://kubuntu.org/packages/amarok-latest repository, and have tested with 1.3.9 from universe. Both have the same problem.

do you have example files to test with?

right now, I don't find any files which are not playing for me.
If this would be a general case, we would have more bugreport like this :)

How do you mean, "example files"? All my files are subject to their
respective copyrights, and I don't have a license for distribution, so I
can't attach them to the bug report. All I can say is, it happens with
all of my files, which are MP3s.

the problem is, that someone has to reproduce this, if it's a difference
between amarok-xine engine and xine-ui with libxine stuff then we need to
know which files are you playing.

Can you just find some mp3 files, where the behaviour is happening, which can
be distributed freely?

If you send me some files that work on your machine that you can
distribute, I'll test them on mine. I can't find any files on my PC that
are free.

OK, I dowloaded "Making Me Nervous" from here:
http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/bradsucks-dontknow/free_download,
and I still suffer the same problem.

Please confirm by installing mpg321 (from universe) that aforementioned mp3s are audible.

Yes, that works fine; I tried it before - but no harm trying it again.

I just "apt-get --reinstall install"-ed libxine-extracodecs and it works fine. I'm closing the bug now.
