Bug Description

Hi,

here you explain how to use firewall buiding scripts:
http://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/serverguide/C/firewall-configuration.html

But, if I want to build the firewall myself (I know how to use iptables),
where should I place the script?

May intend was to ask for a standard name. Some call it /etc/init.d/firewall other call it /etc/init.d/iptables. Some put the script in /etc/network/if-up.d/. I think it would be nice, if the server guide suggests one solution.

I think the server guide should explain more how to write firewall scripts yourself. Iptables has good documentation, this should not be copied,
but explain how to call iptables during boot in ubuntu.

This won't be fixed for Dapper. For Edgy, the firewall documentation is being moved to the Security Guide, where it will get a lot more attention.

Sounds like a valid bug to me. We can look at fixing it for Edgy in the security guide/server guide/whatever we decide to write.

It has been documented in the Server Guide to place firewall scripts in /etc/rc.local along with information on the new UFW firewall tool. That is, it has been documented in the development version, and I'm not quite sure if the status should be changed to "Fix Committed"?

Yes, Fix Committed is the appropriate status (unless already released in hardy)
