Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Ubuntu Server guide should be a nice e-book. Has anybody seen the Ubuntu Pocket Guide? Proof that a guidebook for Ubuntu can be nice, and free. Then it could be published for say ... every LTS release and ubuntu could have a few extra dollars. Just an idea.

Kyle:

Could you send over a link to the "pretty" server guide and the "not-so-pretty" server guide you are referring too? I found one for Karmic and it looks good to me.

https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/serverguide/C/index.html

Of course i'm a capitalist so if Canonical can make a few bucks packaging an existing guide, selling it as a book and using the money to fix some of these bugs then I am all for it.

is the link to the Ubuntu Pocket Guide.

is the Ubuntu server guide. (The one I mean =D)

What I mean is look how the cover is and how book like the Ubuntu Pocket guide is, whereas the Ubuntu Server Guide could use a nicer cover and maybe even a more print-oriented font altogether. Then when it looks a little more book-like publish it!

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

The server guide is mostly geared toward being used on a server, without a graphical interface. The link on help.ubuntu.com is the html export from docbook, and there might be some other "skins" (for lack of a better word) that look nicer, although the current color scheme matches Ubuntu's. The pdf version would look nicer if it had some color.

The Ubuntu Documentation team has moved the serverguide out of the ubuntu-docs source, it is now under the serverguide project. Moving this bug accordingly.

Wennie, I am keeping you assigned to this bug since you have posted some options for us. Thank you for your work, I hope we can integrate one of these. I think we need to figure out how to actually insert it into the document during the pdf creation process.
