Bug Description

Binary package hint: libflash-mozplugin

I'm using Kubuntu Dapper i386 upgraded from Breezy on an AMD Athlon 1400 MHz system with 1.5 GB of RAM and an Nvidia graphics
card on an Asus A7A266 board.

This bug occurs with:
- firefox 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.4-0ubuntu6.06
- libflash-mozplugin 0.4.13-5ubuntu1
- libflash0c2 0.4.13-5ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:
1. Using Firefox with libflash-mozplugin installed, visit http://www.heise.de/newsticker/ .
2. Middle-click one news item after another to open all news items in tabs in the background.

After a few tabs (when there is a news item with a Flash ad), Firefox hangs completely: It does not react anymore and doesn't repaint.

Not reproducible with dapper final. I opened 24 tabs in background from the tab that displays your specified URL. No hang, no crash. Can you provide some more examples?

Oskar, are you using libflash-mozplugin or flashplugin-nonfree?

I tested exactly as you specified with libflash-mozplugin.

It looks like the heise.de site doesn't use flash any more.

The following two URLs hang Firefox for me:
http://www.elitepartner.de/km/media/composing_ep_fruehling.swf
http://www.tsitrone.de/uploads/tx_rlmpflashdetection/home_neu.swf

It is interesting that Firefox just doesn't react to any input any more and doesn't repaint, but does not use much CPU.

If case this helps in getting near the bug, these are the contents of my /etc/firefox/firefoxrc:

# which /dev/dsp wrapper to use
FIREFOX_DSP="auto"

Please check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
Go to section Macromedia Flash (although yours is gplflash) and read the troubleshooting part.

If that solves your problem then let me know.

Unfortunately, the steps described in the troubleshooting part don't solve the hang for me. One additional observation: It appears that the hang occurs when leaving the page with Flash, not when displaying it.
