Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
To reproduce:
Let's have two files, "foo" and "bar". I want rename "bar" to "foobar". I do it this way:
1. select file "foo", press F2 (rename mode, but I do this to get filename text selected),
2. press CTRL+C,
3. select file "bar", press F2 to get to renaming mode, click in front of "b" for we want to paste there,
4. press CTRL+V.
Instead of text "foo" being pasted before "bar" text the whole file "foo" is being duplicated in current folder (new file "foo (copy 1)" appears).
It looks like the file handle is written to clipboard instead of filename string. Please note this is a regression, I reported this bug around 2.8 in nautilus-users list and Alex Larsson fixed it in upstream immediately. That time only browser mode was affected but now this bug can be reproduced both in browser and spatial mode.
Please note current Debian/Sid nautilus (2.14.1-4) doesn't exhibit this strange behavior.
$ dpkg -l | grep nautilus

I've googled my historical bug report back in 2.8 times, please see Alex's fix notification:

* src/file- manager/ fm-list- view.c (fm_list_ view_start_ renaming_ file):
Set up clipboard when renaming.
