Nominated for Karmic by Krzysztof Klimonda

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

1) Enable editable menus
2) Edit menu entry for Shuffle mode by hovering the item in the menu and hit (Ctrl+s) to assign the key
3) Press (Ctrl+s)

Expected: Totem would toggle shuffle mode
Got: Totem asks where to save the screenshot (itself, a menu entry; but it has no (Ctrl+s) shortcut that I can see but it may have been removed by assigning it to Shuffle Mode, I don't know where the changes are stored to revert them, I couldn't find them in gconf-editor)

Can't you confirm with where it was reported? my internet access has a cap and I cant keep up with development versions. I'm very excited that it might work correctly in lucid, and will use it when its released; but right now I'm more concerned with whether it is confirmed as is in karmic

"works for me" type answers are starting to tire me out; I'm not doing bug triage, I don't have all these versions of software running everywhere, people doing triage should however. that's not to say I'm not willing to do triage ... but people generally aren't and these kind of replies are a curt brush off.

Also I'm sure you followed the steps exactly; but you aren't disproving a negative, which yields very little useful information in the scheme of things, if you were to reproduce it in the same version, you could be sure you're following the steps to encounter the behavior, then confirm or disconfirm on lucid.

pardon the hot air

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Can you confirm what you mean by "Enable editable menus"? I'm trying to confirm this bug in karmic and I'm not able to figure that out

Thanks

Ah sorry, I should have been more clear; Appearance -> Interface means System (menu) -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Interface (tab), under which is a checkbox to enable editable shortcuts; "Editable menu shortcut keys"

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since I can reproduce it, I'm going to mark it as confirmed. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

I can't reproduce it on Lucid so I'm marking the bug as "Fix released". As it was also confirmed by Nigel on Karmic I'm going to nominate it for this release.

does "nominate for this release" mean a fix will be backported or is it just dead on the floor until lucid? thanks for the replies

ok, I've actually played some more with this bug as I was wondering where it comes from (and how hard would it be to fix it in Karmic) and it looks like I've made a mistake - I've originally bound it to Ctrl+L and it worked just fine, I've also bound it to Ctrl+S but probably haven't tested it properly and didn't notice that it doesn't work as expected. Now I see that Ctrl+S and some other combinations (like Ctrl+O) are treated differently and it isn't limited to totem - I could confirm that this is an issue in gedit (you can try by binding Insert date and time to Ctrl+A and using it - instead of displaying a dialog it selects all text). Sorry for making the noise. I'm going to mark bug as confirmed once again.
Now about if it gets fixed in Karmic - I'm not sure as it depends on the complexity of the bug and amount of work it would take to backport the fix. Can't tell right now.

this kind of makes fixing the bugs a little less of an issue if the pref is going to be hidden; they might remove it entirely soon enough, rendering this bug moot

that's not to say i agree with the bug or removing this functionality

In Ubuntu-10.10 i dont see any 'Interface' tab so could anyone tell if there is a gconf key that I could use to reproduce this issue?
