Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdemultimedia

"juk" in the current kdemultimedia package offers only artsd and akode output in the "Settings" -> "Output To..." menu. In previous releases, "GStreamer" was also offered.

Unfortunately artsd is heavyweight, buggy, and not as usable as esd, and akode doesn't support esd output. I use esd to support remote-sound playback. GStreamer, however, does support esd via the "esdsink" (see http://taint.org/wk/RemotePlaybackWithEsd ), so I needed to get the gstreamer output plugin working again.

On investigation, I found that this was easy to remedy; I simply ran

sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins0.8-dev libgstreamer0.8-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libgstreamer-gconf0.8-dev

then reran configure and rebuilt juk from the kdemultimedia source pkg, and all was well.

Would it be possible for the ubuntu package to include the gstreamer support, too?

Simply adding a build-depends would have the effect wanted by the submitter and it seems like a reasonable request. It's not clear that _all_ of the libraries specified by the submitter are necessary; the MOTU making this change should check which are needed perhaps by looking at the kdemultimedia documentation.
