Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-wallpapers

Defaut aubergine wallpaper for Lucid is heavy affected by color banding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_banding) on most cheaper LCDs. This is visible especially on black-to-medium-aubergine gradient on the left side. Hard to provide a screenshot, because this is completely hardware-dependent.

Similar issue was detected with the xsplash backround in Karmic, where some decent dithering was applied as a solution.

Is this still a problem in newer Ubuntu releases (12.04+) ?
