Bug Description

I have an ATI Rage 128 but this bug appears also on an RADEON 9700 regardless of the used driver.
Every time the display changes from usplash to gdm, the sreen shows some heavily distorted parts of the currently set gnome-Wallpaper. The same happens on shutdown. It lasts for round about 3 seconds.

I think this is a bug in usplash, but it could also be something with Xorg.

I've checked wether usplash is the cause by deactivating usplash. is has definetly nothing to do with usplash.
It only appears at Xorg startup or if you switch back to gdm. But I've also seen this bug on kubuntu with kdm.
