Bug Description

The edgy Release file appears to be broken - it's missing the entries for the -updates and -security pockets.

Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy-updates/Release Unable to find expected entry main/binary-amd64/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

These should either be in the Release file or not be in the archive.

Bumping this to critical as this also affects dapper and other released suites (which it REALLY shouldn't, but that's another bug, see 48948). Please fix as a matter of urgency, this is affecting all our users.

Malcolm Cleaton says that a rollback branch is being prepared and will be deployed to drescher shortly to correct this

I've deployed a branch which uncherrypicks r3817 to fix this.

I also uncherrypicked r3819 at cprov's request, which apparently broke something else.

cron.daily has since run without problems, and as far as I can see, this is now fixed.
