Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

The notebook sits in a docking station. An external monitor is connected with the docking station. Connecting the monitor via VGA works, but via DVI doesn't. When connected via DVI, the monitor is not detected.

xrandr output, when monitor is connected with the VGA port of the docking station:

Does anyone know or has tested if this is fixed in 10.10 release?

Benjamin Drung, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I did a clean installation of 12.04 a few days ago on my T400. When the BIOS is on "Switchable graphics" mode, the intel chip only recognized the VGA output. Switching to "Discrete graphics" solves this problem, as the ATI is then running (to dismay of my battery life).

I can try to collect the data you need next week.

BR,
Gerard.

Hi,

In my opinion they are the same bug: same problem, same laptop and same docking station (since there's only one with the advertised features). But you are the one dealing with the bugs, so I'll do as you prefer. On the other hand, I would like the bugtracker to remember the fact that this problem has been unresolved for more than 2 years...

BR,
Gerard.

Oh, I'll add that I reproduced the original problem in 10.04 too.

Opening a second bug report for the same issue (due to identical hardware) makes no sense to me. I can't test Ubuntu 12.04 on this machine, because I do not have any access to this machine any more. Gerard, please take over this bug report. Otherwise this bug needs to be closed.
