auto configuration doesn't work anymore

Bug Description

The version in edgy (0.5.2-4) doesn't support MODE=auto anymore. I had to configure /etc/default/915resolution manually to get 915resolution to work again.
It looks like this change got lost at the last sync with debian.

We shouldn't actually need 915resolution anymore, the new version of Xorg has mode-setting code in it.

If Ubuntu's Xorg has mode-setting code by now (from the modesetting branch of xf-video-intel, i presume?), it doesn't work for me. At least I haven't been able to find a way to make it work.

915resolution is still the only way I can get 1280x768.

I confirm this bug, auto works in Dapper but not in Edgy Knot 2.

I have a laptop with xvga (1280x800). The configuration instructions say you need to choce the option for your resolution, but no option offers the 1280x800 resolution... so I really don't know what to do to have in Edgy the appropriate resolution I've got in Dapper.

X.org only gives me a chance to have a 1024x768 resolution, as far as I know.

Matthew's last upload failed because the distribution was set to unstable, rather than edgy.
