I dowloaded and installed the libmd5-perl.deb from ubuntu karmic (9.10) package archive. Then installed webmin from the deb package from the webmin site. Now it is working fine.
By the way I don't now how bad this behaviour is.

shrini (shrini)
affects: ubuntu → libmd5-perl (Ubuntu)

libmd5-perl has been removed from Debian and subsequently Ubuntu [1].
It has been deprecated in favor of Digest::MD5 for at least 10 years.

As I don't plan to reintroduce libmd5-perl to Debian and Ubuntu, I'll
mark this bug Won't Fix. webmin should use Digest::MD5 instead of MD5
and no longer depend on libmd5-perl.

 status wontfix

Webmin is fixed in latest versions, so the package is not necessary anymore.

FYI: this was a bug in FOG 0.28 (http://www.fogproject.org), but is fixed in version 0.29, as they removed the dependency of libmd5-perl. See http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/forums/forum/730843/topic/3689021 for more information.

I don't know about the situation in Usermin.
