Looking at the dpkg log, I see that all update requests (since the beginning of the log, at 2010-03-01) failed for MySQL. I also see the following lines:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'debian-sys-maint'@'localhost' (using password: YES)'
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-server-5.0_5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.3_i386.deb

So. Did you disable, delete, or change the password for the 'debian-sys-maint@localhost' MySQL userid?
