Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

USB external storage cannot be mount automaticaly or manualy (mount block, no error, no warning)

I have tested the same USB device on the same computer with Ubuntu 8.10, it is working correctly
On a different computer with Ubuntu 9.10 it also work correctly
I have do a e2fsck, there was no errors

So I think that the issue is not related to an hardware issue of the device

Here is the content of the 'dmesg':
[ 159.280058] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7

The last line is repeated periodicly.

There is only one partition in the device (ext3)

- the concerned device is /dev/sdg

- /dev/sdb is also an external usb device which contains the OS and work correctly

- /dev/sda is a SATA internal disk that I don't use

- The disk is : Samsung SpinPoint M6S - 320 Go S-ATA

- The external box is: Enermax Brick, it should be: http://www.enermax.fr/fr/brick-eb208s-b-s/136-2-c.html (at least visually that is the same)

- dmesg contains some [ 990.782930] Buffer I/O error on device sdg1, logical block 0 that I don't have with 9.10/8.10 even when stressing the disk

Don't know if this is related, but I have a similar problem with a samsung writemaster dvdrw connected through USB.

Everything seems fine but as soon as I put in a CD-ROM the CD-Drive symbol vanishes from the File Browser.

I could manually mount sr0, though. Still no CD-ROM Icon in the File Browser :-(

I turn the bug status to 'invalid', because:
 - I don't reproduce with ubuntu 9.10
 - I reproduce with 10.04 alpha and beta
 - I no more reproduce since I update 10.04 today (17th april 2010) but I can't prove which package fix the issue or that it was not a configuration issue

Changed in udev (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Invalid
