Bug Description

KOffice 2.2 is coming and it includes Office 2007 support. It's also better integrated with KDE and it uses less RAM than OOo, plus it is more user-friendly than OOo. Plus it has more applications that OOo (of course, not ALL of them has to be installed when as default).

Since 2.2 includes Office 2007 support, it can handle the same type of files as OOo, plus it is more user-friendly.

Is this the time to drop OOo as default on Kubuntu in favor of KOffice?
(I'm talking about 10.10 btw, since it's too late for 10.04)

KOffice upstream is against this, as they don't consider 2.2 to be user-ready.

They never said that. Only for the beta, but they said nothing about the final version. They already said that the final version will be user-ready.

And btw, KOffice is already more user-ready than OpenOffice.org IMO. I've never seen KOffice crash, and it's full of features and user-friendly. OpenOffice.org is not user-friendly IMO, and OOo crashes or hangs sometimes with larger documents.

But still, they consider the final version of 2.2 will be user-ready.

Ok, WE are not them. And WE do not think it is ready. WE very much want to replace ooo with ko, so once it is possible and makes sense for the better part of our target audience it will be done. Until then this is a won't fix.
Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.
Have a nice day :)

In any case it is far to late in the development cycle to be considering such changes now. Please do not revert the status of the bug. It will just annoy people and waste developer time. It won't change what gets done for Lucid.

@Scott: If you've read the bug description, you could've read that I said "I'm talking about 10.10 btw, since it's too late for 10.04"

So please read the bug description next time before saying such things. Thank you very much.
