Bug Description

I have installed Dapper on my Acer Aspire 1652WLMi notebook, all seem to work but
just before gdm logon appear it flashes this message:

[17179570.824000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:1c.0
[17179570.824000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:1c.0
[17179570.824000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 9 of bridge 0000:00:1c.0

[17179570.824000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 9 of bridge 0000:00:1c.2

lspci tell me that

0000:00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 04)
0000:00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 04)

Please try booting by adding pci=noacpi to the kernel command line.

Also, you can try getting the DSDT file here:

http://acpi.sourceforge.net/dsdt/view.php?id=567

Place it as /etc/mkinitramfs/DSDT.asl after unzipping it. Then run:

sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`

booting with the pci=noacpi option still get me the same pci warning message and my wireless interface (intel pro wireless 2200BG, it's a centrino) disappear so I'm going to try the modified dsdt

I also have experience this on an HP/Compaq nw8240 laptop. Although, I only see three lines:

[....] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge ....
[...] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge ...
[...] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 9 of bridge ...

Elipses (...) where I am not sure of the exact text.

I get this on an Acer Aspire 1642 WLMi as well ... Error Codes I get are exactly the same as on Acer Aspire 1652. The error actually pops up upon initial bootup of the kernel (before after savedefault, boot and *Reading files needed to boot) but I guess with usplash you only see it just before gdm starts - Hitting Alt-F1 during early stages of boot shows it rather clearly.

I doubt it's an acpi issue as I have up to date DSDT for my model laptop, and pci=noacpi doesn't stop the error from appearing.

I believe issue is related to PCI Express Port

Recently updated to Edgy Knot 2 with Kernel 2.6.17-7-generic and error still present.

As mentioned, no issues caused by this that I know of, but confidence drops when you see an error message everytime you startup your Laptop ...

I've got an HP nx6125 with the same errors as above. The errors occur on Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Ubuntu Server. Let me know if you'd like any information from me.

Oh yeah, my laptop has an AMD Turion 64 (ML-37), I'm running with noapic option (doesn't make a difference if it's passed or not). I saw using dmesg that the error is complaining about these guys:

$lspci
[...]
0000:00:04.0 PCI Bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5a36
0000:00:05.0 PCI Bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5a37

I believe that's my PCI Express54 slot...maybe.

I also do have the same issue with the same error message in dmesg. I have an Acer Aspire 5572 with the 2.6.15-27-686 kernel

So far the only problem I have with this laptop is the sound where I cannot control volume through gnome but through each application (annoying but not a problem) and speakers volume will not cut if plug my headphone (more annoying)

 included here my lspci

I think that the case is different for you brandon, as far as I understand, everything is working correctly with the bug submitter and all of those who added comments(including me), however we're reporting it just in case.
If it's causing you a real problem, then I think you should submit a new bug or something(or may be this isn't the actual reason you can't install Ubuntu)

Allright, fair enough.. I've submitted it as a new bug, #73687 To my mind it seems like a somewhat related issue, so i'm posting this follow-up here in the hopes that someone saavy with #56376 might provide some input on my situation.

Since the relevant section of dmesg is almost identical to bug # 54294 I've (finally) marked this as a duplicate.
