fn key no longer works on kernel

Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-686

Apparently this worked on the -23 kernel with the patch posted here

According the the blog Bill Collins applied it and everything worked, I am running the -26 kernel and it no longer works - when i press the key in xev no event is registered. Is it possible to update this in the next security release?

I don't know the fn key is supposed to work, but xev does return different keycodes for e.g. function keys and arrow keys when the fn key is pressed, even though xev doesn't respond to fn by itself.

It's been a while since any activity on this bug. Is it still an issue on a gutsy or hardy system?

And I'm not sure that the kernel registers the presses of modifier keys like shift/control/alt/super as individual events either, so it would be nice to know if the Fn key behaves like those keys, in that they still produce a single keystroke when it and another key are pressed, instead of two individual events.
