Bug Description

When using Evolution, the compose mail window doesn't allow a standard Linux copy operation where the user highlights text in any of the address fields in the Compose Message window and then uses the middle mouse button (or chorded left and right mouse buttons) to paste anywhere else.

Steps to repeat.

1. Launch Evolution

2. Click File -> New -> Message

3. In the Compose Mail window, click View -> Reply-To Field

4. You should now see a Reply-To field in the Compose Message window.

5. For the purposes for this test type <email address hidden> (or any address, in any of the address fields of the Compose Message window . I will do it in the Reply-To field, but it affects them all.

6. Use the mouse to highlight the address.

7. Place the cursor in any other field in the compose window including the message field, or even open up gedit and place the cursor there.

8. Now use the middle button (or chord click the right and left mouse button to paste).

9. Nothing happens.

10. Now try highlighting the address again, this time copy it with Ctrl-C on the keyboard.

11. Place the cursor in any other field (or gedit) and use Ctrl-V to paste with your keyboard.

12. It works.

The odd thing is that this only affects the copy operation from the address fields. You can type an address (or anything really) in the Subject or Message compose section of the Compose Message window and then Linux copy from them to any of the address fields. You just can't Linux copy from the address fields and paste anywhere else.

The inconsistency of the behavior is the annoying part and makes it appear broken.

I also experienced this, but it's not exactly as you say; I think I narrowed down the inconsistencies... here's what I found:

Copying from the "reply-to:" field and pasting works anywhere and you can paste as many times as you like.

Copying from the "to:", "cc:", and "bcc:" fields only paste _once_ back in to their own field, and no where else. If you try to paste somewhere else with the middle button, it won't do anything, and won't let you paste the clipboard data anymore - it's like it's been erased, yet it hasn't because the keyboard and menu commands always work.

Copying from the "subject:" and "post-to:" fields allow infinite pasting outside of the subject field, but once you paste in the "subject:" field, it won't paste anymore, anywhere. I.e. pasting only works once within the subject field like the "to:" field except you can paste elseware.

All the above work as expected (infinite pastes anywhere) using CTRL+C and CTRL+V. The problem is only with the middle mouse button, and there are definitely inconsistencies between the above fields in evolution and other applications.

Can you confirm all of these Jim? Can anyone else please so we can set this bug to confirmed. Cheers.

<P>I can confirm this partially. I can copy from the Reply-To field to any OTHER field as many time as I like using the middle button Linux copy. However, I cannot copy from the Reply-To field to itself. Once I do, the copying ability is lost.

<p>I can't confirm this. It doesn't even work back on itself for me. Nor does it work to copy from any of those fields to anything else.

<p>I can confirm that CTRL-C and CTRL-V copy and pastes work everywhere as they should and would be expected.
