Bug Description

Binary package hint: gkrellm

In Edgy and Feisty (gkrellm 2.2.9) it is not possible anymore to define a remote POP3 mailbox with SSL or a IMAPS mailbox in the built in Mail module. This is necessary to check for new mails on my google account.
This is a regression from Dapper.

I have made several attempts to contact the maintainer of this package Cai Qian (loricai at gmail.com) and he has only responded once saying that it has been "built against GNUtls and not openSSL."

I have tried to say that this is irrelevant but he has stopped responding. Is there anything Ubuntu can do about this and get someone to maintain the package properly?

Will, thanks for the tip.
I have rebuilt the edgy packages against libssl-dev, this adds SSL support again.

A binary i386 package for edgy can be downloaded here:
http://users.fulladsl.be/spb1804/gkrellm_2.2.9-1ubuntu2edgy.pdv1_i386.deb

To install it download it and run the following command from a terminal:
sudo dpkg -i gkrellm_2.2.9-1ubuntu2edgy.pdv1_i386.deb

Edited bug summary and description. This bug is *still* present in Feisty and also affects IMAPS mailboxes.

Interestingly, Debian packages are built with SSL support.

Version 2.2.9-1 from Debian also has this problem, since Debian packages are built against libgnutls-dev.

gusty has 2.2.10-1 which could fix the problem according to debian/changelog:

 gkrellm (2.2.10-1) unstable; urgency=low

    * Add patches to fix that configure script is unable to detect libgnutls.

I don't have Gusty installed at the moment so I can not test this.

I installed Debian testing's package (2.2.10). So far so good :-)
