kdbus crashes while starting up. It does not manage to show its gui.

Can you confirm that this is a duplicate? If you run kdbus from command line do you see similar output as in bug bug #71967?

It is not a duplicate.

The behaviour changed for me though: Now kdbus comes up, the UI is rendered and then it freezes. There is no output on the console whatsoever.

Have you tried this on feisty? Feisty has a fixed package and it is possible that the problem you are having is fixed too.
