I asked this on the ubuntu_it forum and I was advised to report it here.

I sometimes have a need to have two user concurrent user sessions running in parallel. Occasionally, after a few minutes working in the second user session, the systems slows down to a point where it doesn't respond anymore. I am then forced to switch the machine off using the well know "beast" method (flick the power switch).

Would you have any idea what is causing this?

Additional notes:
- in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog, there is a 1/2 hour blank relative to the time of the crash,
- I don't think it is due to insufficient hardware capacity as I've never had the same problem with Windows (which is otherwise a lot more resource hungry)
- hardware info: P4 2GHz 1GbRam 80GbHD dualboot WIN XP\Ubuntu 10.04

ciao, ho già chiesto sul forum ubuntu_it e mi è stato consigliato di fare a voi la segnalazione.

sono diverse volte che ho la necessità di avviare due sessioni utente in parallelo, ma puntualmente dopo qualche minuto di lavoro sulla seconda sessione il sistema si rallenta in modo smisurato e non si riprende più. sono costretto a forzare lo spegnimento della macchina con il famosissimo metodo bestia (stacco la corrente...)

avete idea da cosa possa dipendere?

aggiungo le seguenti note:

- nel /var/log/messages e in /var/log/syslog risulta un buco di oltre mezz'ora relativamente all'orario del crash
- non credo sia un problema di insufficienza hardware poichè con il SO win (ben più pesante) non ho mai avuto problemi simili
- se termino sessione utente ed entro con altro utente non c'è alcun problema
- info macchina: notebook P4 2GHz 1GbRam 80GbHD dualboot WIN XP\Ubuntu 10.04

thank you for your bug report but bugs should be described in english so they can be read by triagers and people working on those

@Sebastien: I translated the description and it looks to me like Nautilus is not the correct package but I'm not sure which one would be the correct one, nor what further info to request in order to identify the source of the problem.

@LVS:
Ho attacato a questo bug un picolo script per trovare la causa dal tuo problema. Scaricalo nel tuo sistema e la proxima volta che avvii due sessioni utente in parallelo, nella seconda, puoi apprire un terminale e inserire:

bash pslog.sh > ps.log &

Dopo, lascialo aperto fino ad'avere il problema. Questo resultara en un file chiamato ps.log. Se lo puoi attachare a questo bug, ci aiutara molto a cappire il tuo problema.

@LVS: non c'e niente che mi puo dire perche hai il problema... Como mi sembra un po complicato d'analizare, cambio il bug in una domanda d'aiuto, cosi non manda milliardi di email a tutti.
