Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress

I am using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with latest update (so 2.0.2 regarding OpenOffice).
I am launching Impress and creating a new presentation from the Glossy template. I am taking screenshot of my desktop using Alt+Prt Screen, which creates PNG files. I integrate the PNG files inside my presentation. Everything goes fine until I am using the slide show. Most of the time the pictures are not displayed. Some times they are, but they could have "artefacts".
If I save this presentation on a USB Key and reboot on Windows XP. OpenOffice 2.0.3, which I have on Windows, displays properly the slide show.

I have an example .odp file for this purpose. But you could also use this link ([link updated]http://joey.ubuntu-rocks.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/stanford-ubuntu-2006-09.odp warning: file size is 3MB), which I have found in the Ubuntu Wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Presentations) When I am executing the slide show of this presentation, a picture of Mark Shuttleworth is displayed on the 3rd slide. It is not properly displayed on my PC, instead of a photo, I have a part of my screen displayed at the position of the photograph.
Again, if I reboot on Windows, the slide show is properly displayed.

Edit:
  - 2006.10.10: Update link for presentation, the provided link was now pointing to nowhere. The new link works correctly now.

I do not understand why this bug is marked as affecting openoffice.org-amd64, whereas I had selected on the bug creation: "openoffice.org-impress" (if i go back in my history and can verify that I did select it correctly)
So if any one can explain that to me also... :-(

I take the opportunity of this message to send as attached file, the example presentation I have done (less than 200KB)

Is this on a 64bit 32bit or ppc? Also openoffice.org 2.0.3 is in the dapper-proposed repo. I dont know if that will help your issue or not but it can be used as a work around. I would wait a week or so if you can until trying it so we can get any other info needed.
I changed it to openoffice.org2 as there is no -impress selection in my launchpad.

Thank you for the precision John.
OK, I can wait for the OpenOffice update.
As to your question, I am using the 32bit x86 version of OpenOffice, which is currently for Dapper the version 2.0.2 I do not know why the 64bit version of OpenOffice got selected?!?
Thank you for the change, it reflects better the affected product, eventhough it seems to concern only Impress.

Thank for all your help. So today, I had a bit of time and I tried to install OpenOffice 2.0.3 which is in dapper-proposed.
The problem is that I cannot install it. It want to suppress my french local, and fail with this error:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-impress_2.0.3-6dapper2_i386.deb: trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/TypeDetection/Filter/fcfg_impressgraphics_filters.xcu', which is also in package openoffice.org-common

:( After that, my OpenOffice was broken (some packages had been updated, some not)
It took me a bit of time before I manage set back everything to normal.

So before I mess it up again, can I install the OpenOffice 2.0.4 rc1 which is intended for Edgy on a Dapper installation?

Is this still a problem for you?

As mentionned in my previous comment, I could not update my OpenOffice installation. So I am still stuck with this problem.

However, I did some test with a friend and he has a hardware pretty similar to mine but with a different video card (an Intel instead of my ATI Radeon Mobility 9000). On his computer, with the same installation of Ubuntu, the above examples are working!
So I suspect that it might come from a bug in the video driver. I am using the open source version of the ATI driver. I will try this week to install the proprietary driver and see if I still have the bug.

I have another example that does not work on my Linux but on Windows. It is a converted Ms Powerpoint presentation that I have found on Internet.
Both the PPT and ODP are working fine within OpenOffice on Windows XP, but both do not display all graphical information under Ubuntu...
What is missing in this presentation is the surrounding square borders of many of the figures. And as there are some UML diagrams, I do not see the square box defining the usual classes, but only there contents.

The weird thing is that when I access the same page but in "editing mode" I see the complete picture properly. Only when in "slide show mode" do I not see some pictures or parts of figures...

Cheers,
Huygens

More information, at home I have Ubuntu 6.10 now installed on my desktop (using the open source driver for the ATI 9600 XT).

If I test the attachments and links given here:
  * "ODP Test File": working
  * "Yet Another Test File": some buggy display, so for example the slide #18 (State Diagram from Sprayer) is not readable when viewed using the slide show mode
  * Ubuntu Presentation: working

So the bug applies partially to OpenOffice 2.0.4 on Ubuntu 6.10 as well, but it could be, on this configuration, more a problem of conversion from PowerPoint format to OpenOffice format than an OpenOffice bug.

Hi, do you happen to have "hardware acceleration" enabled in:

Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> View

Under "Graphics Output"

That solved some slideshow rendering problems for me, worth a try.

Yes, b, it was enabled. But anyway, I have good news :-) I'm testing Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, and the bug is no more reproducible with this new release. :-)
