Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

My music library is accessed from Windows and Linux on a local NTFS file system. If I make a change to a file name while in Windows and then switch to Edgy, Rhythmbox reports that it can't find the original file, but doesn't notice the addition of the new file name. I have "Watch my library for new files" checked in the preferences which I would think would catch this. The only way around it that I can see is to rebuild the entire library or locate each song and import it manually.

The expected result is that with that option checked, any changes to the library file system would be caught and integrated into rhythmbox's library database. The actual result is that it doesn't seem to notice when files are added/changed, only removed. This may have something to do with the way NTFS reports file changes?

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu and rhythmbox do you use? Does it happen if you use an ext3 filesystem?

This is on Ubuntu Edgy with Rhythmbox 0.9.5-1ubuntu5. I can't confirm the condition under an EXT3 file system at this time since I don't have a music collection accessible from Windows on an EXT FS.

I have similar problems, using ext3. I'm afraid it's kind of a duplicate: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/60892

Can you reproduce this bug with the last version of rhythmbox in edgy, 0.9.6-0ubuntu4 ? Thanks

I have the same problem, using Rhythmbox 0.9.5 on Dapper. My music is on a FAT32 partition. Files that I have deleted are noticed as missing, but no new files are added.

~> rhythmbox --version
Gnome rhythmbox 0.9.5

I can't check this with the newest Rhythmbox on Edgy at the moment, unfortunately.

No reply, closing for now. Feel free to reopen if you still get the problem with the new version of the package
