Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

In Linux, one normally adds java plugin capability by establishing a symbolic link from the firefox "plugins" directory to the JRE shared library:

$ cd <Firefox>/plugins
$ ln -s <JRE>/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so .

But the 4.0 beta doesn't have a "plugins" directory - but all the online help documentation on how to get java applets working in Linux still refers to that directory.

I'm not sure I understand the problem here. FF4.0 has a plugins directory (it's a symlink to ../firefox-addons/plugins). Could you describe your issues in a bit more detail please?

When I downloaded the firefox 4.0b1.tar, there was no "plugins" directory. - as a matter of fact, there's was no "firefox-addons/" either. I can send you the tar file if you wish. Perhaps you're looking at a newer build?

So you're not actually using the packages we are supplying, but instead downloading the Mozilla distributed tar file? If that's the case, then there's not a bug in our package. The Ubuntu bug tracker is not the right place to ask for help to install applications you've downloaded (it is for reporting bugs in Ubuntu)

Sorry about that - when I originally filed the bug, I thought I had done it from the Firefox web site. When Micah made the bug invalid I realized that I had filed to the wrong forum....then u asked your question and I assumed (because I didn't look carefully) that this question was coming from Firefox developers since I had subsequently filed a bug there as well.
