yes - confirmed too same things happened
but it looks like showfoto is in digikamimageplugins

>digikamimageplugins - image editor plugins for digikam and showfoto

but i can't find it anywhere after install... and it looks like it opens when you are in digikam, but not as a stand-alone

Assigning this to Anthony Mercatante, as he is the one who did the digikam/showfoto split. This is a trivial fix which just needs to be uploaded. Please! :)

i solved it doing a force:
sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/showfoto_1%3a0.8.2-2ubuntu1_i386.deb

but please fix it for the non_console adept. kubuntu is not designed for geek.

Thanks. I hope that this will also be fixed for edgy.

doing a force worked a treat, thanks! it didn't work when i tried to install it the usual way with (apt-get install). i reckon it's still broken or do i have to change my sources.list?!

thanks to steph for the workaround!

Why? There are more important bugs that have been around for *over two years* and they're stil unresolved. :-)

steph_Z (polariscorp) wrote :

that's right, but here i was only talking for showfoto package-> why is there a fix for feisty and not for edgy?
The bug was flagged for edgy at first.
And honestly who cares about feisty at that time ?

Please again fix it for edgy, the --force is a dirty solution....

If not i will loose any hope in Kubuntu.

Because Edgy is released now. There needs to be a backport request for this.

tuxo (beat-fasel) wrote :

Why a backport and not an update? Nobody asks here for a new version, but simply a package that can be installed.
This state we are in annoys me quite a bit. It is also true for quite some other (K)Ubuntu bugs that do not get fixed. Especially Dapper LTS is not receiving fixes for numerous critical bugs. Why this forward rush to the next version, leaving the users behind often with half-working systems?

steph_Z (polariscorp) wrote :

I completly agree with Tuxo...
Ok edgy is realeased but with showfoto installation broken, so please do an update no need to request for a backport (showfotos was planned to be integrated in edgy)
How do you think a new user will react in front of this kind of bug ? he will boot back to windows.
This is NOT a normal state, this bug is 2 second fixing so update it for edgy and let users have their showfoto again.

> Why can't Anthony Mercatante fix it for edgy ? i don't understand...

Because the "-update" process is different and has to be approved by people working on that in the first place.
I generally focus on the current devel distro only.
I agree this has to be an update and not a backport, since that's a packaging issue (the error is mine). A backport is involved only for a new upstream release.

I'll ping the good personns to get it in update today.

To be honest. I do not understand what is going on here! There is a BUG, a BUG which is very easy to kill (interrupt me if I am wrong), but it is not changed because of WHAT?!

Just fix th stuff! Can not be that difficult! I would LOVE to use showfoto!

MAWSpitau : I haven't been available to do it last week, sorry for this... If that's too slow for you, feel free to do it yourself, following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates. I'm not paid to do that and I'm doing depending of the free time available.

I just did the bug report for stable release update, and I will now follow the process to get the patch in.
