usplash: 0.4-25
usplash-theme-ubuntu 0.1-1

Since upgrading to Edgy, usplash no longer shows the familiar Ubuntu boot splash. Much to my amazement, the theme package did not configure itself in postinst to replace the testcard that comes with usplash. Trying to manually set the symbolic link also failed; usplash complained about some undefined symbols.

System is starting up...
usplash: no usable theme found for 640x480
screen init failed

When you say "usplash complained about some undefined symbols." can you please give the full error.

I have an installation of knot2 with all updates to date which shows the test card.

I also have a seperate installation of knot3 with all updates which shows no splash screen and on this I get:

System is starting up...
usplash: no usable theme found for 640x480
screen init failed

I am getting the testcard. The progress bar works, but not the boot messages. I do not get the intended Ubuntu theme.

I do not get any message about a theme for my resolution not being available.

On Knot2 I do not get the messages within the test card either. I used
to, but they stopped after an apt upgrade.

This was a bug in usplash itself which is fixed in 0.4-31

Sorry but I have 0.4-31 and still have the same problem - no graphical boot up screen.

I still get the message:

System is starting up...
usplash: no usable theme found for 640x480
screen init failed

I concur. I get finally a splash screen. A broken one, but that deserves a separate bug report.

I have now solved the problem by:

putting 1024x768 in /etc/usplash.conf

dpkg-reconfigure usplash.

Hope this helps others as well.
